Suitable for home, hospital, or C-section births, this program encourages mothers to embrace the body's natural birthing reflex through mental conditioning and physical preparation.
Begin with a 90-minute consultation & treatment: £300 with Gowri, £150 with a Gentle Birth Method Practitioner.
Core Elements of the Gentle Birth Method
-
General Note
The Gentle Birth Method (GBM) program typically begins between 16 and 20 weeks of pregnancy, though mothers can enrol earlier to manage early pregnancy symptoms like nausea.
The following outlines the core elements of the method.
Your practitioner will guide you through the programme. You will also receive the GBM Pregnancy Guidelines and summary chart, and a couple of complementary GBM MP3s.
We recommend a minimum of nine treatments, but find some of our mothers come every week as they enjoy and benefit from the treatments.

Physical Preparation Treatments
-
General Note
Gentle Birth Method treatments are physiologically designed for each stage of pregnancy, focusing on different systems as needed. Practitioners realign joints and detoxify muscles to promote softness and flexibility for birth, addressing common pregnancy discomforts like back pain, nausea, and fluid retention.
-
Gentle Birth Method : Pregnancy Massage
Gentle Birth Method pregnancy massage incorporates lymphatic drainage using Joseph B. Stephenson’s Creative Healing techniques. This gentle yet effective hands-on massage restores energy flow and includes Bowen technique moves for pelvic release. The treatment begins with lymphatic drainage of the upper back and neck, followed by abdominal toning and drainage, and specific treatments on the pancreas to improve digestion and balance blood sugars.
-
Pregnancy Yoga with Micro-Movements
Micro-movements promote pelvic muscle awareness and breathing, releasing pelvic ligaments for optimal fetal positioning and engagement. This helps mothers connect with their natural pelvic expansion for an easier birth experience. Classes, taught by Birthlight's Ingrid Lewis, incorporate Alexander Technique awareness and a 30-minute GBM Hypnobirth ‘The Gowri Way’ session.

-
The Gowri Wrap (Pre and Post Natal - from 28 weeks)
The Gowri Wrap provides crucial uterine support, helping your baby achieve optimal fetal positioning for a healthier pregnancy. This wrap enhances comfort during pregnancy and significantly aids postpartum recovery, making it a valuable asset to your prenatal and postnatal care.
-
Ayurveda Support
Ayurveda complements the Gentle Birth Method by fostering holistic well-being in pregnancy. Through customised diet, herbs, and lifestyle adjustments, it balances body and mind, promoting relaxation, reducing stress, and enhancing maternal and infant health. Ayurvedic practices also support detoxification and hormonal balance, creating a harmonious environment for pregnancy and birth.
-
Perineal & Vaginal Oiling and Stretching
From 36 weeks, prepare for childbirth by stretching and softening the lower vaginal tissues. Ayurvedic oil can help decongest the cervix, potentially easing dilation. Self-stretching or using an Epi-No may also be beneficial.
-
Rectal Oil Enemas
Twice-weekly rectal enemas from 36 weeks can reduce rectal oedema, soothe pelvic tissues, and improve comfort during the second stage of labour.
-
Warm Oil Backpacks
Warm oil back packs nourish and relax lumbo-sacral muscles and joints, providing vital energy and soothing pelvic and vaginal nerves for increased comfort during childbirth.
MENTAL PREPARATION
-
General Note
Mental preparation is as crucial as physical preparation for a gentle birth. By dispelling fear and anxiety, which can cause tension and hinder delivery, mothers can embrace a relaxed and comfortable birthing experience. Gentle Birth Method classes recondition the mind, fostering confidence in the body's natural ability to give birth easily and strengthening the emotional bond between mother, father, and baby.
