The purpose of my visit to St John’s Wood was ante-natal classes with the most highly sought-after Dr Gowri Motha, mentor and midwife to supermodels, super-celebrities and the simply super-anxious like me.  She is without doubt London’s best-kept secret and I am fortunate enough to have slipped into her inner circle, courtesy of a generous friend.

With the help of meditation, massage, herbs and diet she assures a quick and pleasant birth.  My husband Sebag calls her Dr Contraction and is enthusiastic up to a point.  He refuses to join me and other couples for classes.  However, he reassures me he’s a doctor’s son and as he proved the first time, he’s ready to deliver the baby himself.
