No! I have had incredible results from mothers who have started late in the programme because they have put their heart and soul in the whole concept. They give up wheat and sugar, listen to the audio-tape* (once or twice a day), do daily yoga and exercise, and totally commit themselves to becoming birthfit. I have some wonderful letters from them about their fantastic births, how calm their baby’s are and how energetic they feel post-natal. * The Jeyarani Way. Prepare for a natural birth with Self-hypnosis and Visualisation by Dr Gowri Motha. Diet is of paramount importance and remember you are in charge of this, only you can do it! Follow the nutritional guidelines, do 20 minutes of yoga daily (we have a DVD, which is especially made for pregnant women and is gentle but effective), and listen to the audio-tape daily. Yes!!!!! I'm pregnant. I know what to expect, this isn't my first time, it’s my 5th, and I am excited. Sure enough at 6 weeks the throwing up 30 times a day started. Every smell, from black bin bags, food cooking in the kitchen, (try not going into the kitchen with a young family which need a square meal every night.) to the new computer at work making you run once again to throw up. With all the other pregnancies the pattern was the same - throwing-up; my legs having to go into the anti-thrombotic stockings (you know the ones which they give you to wear after operations, to stop blood clots. No they don't stay up!!!); all food tasting like metal; having no energy to do or bother with anything. The great day I started throwing-up was the day we were going on our summer holidays. I was very lucky to be able to get a flat in the same block as my sister, and sure enough every time she walked in I was in bed (no energy) or in the bathroom. And so I went on over the next 4 weeks, then I heard about Dr. Gowri Motha, and her team of Kasia and Mary. I had nothing to lose, so one day having seen the children off to school, crawling back to bed (no energy!) and rolling out again, to my appointment, I met Gowri, who proceeded to give me the first REAL reflexology of my life. She spoke to me and reassured me that I would feel fine and she could help me if l would change my diet. So there I was feeling like a rag, needing to throw up, my legs aching, with Gowri pummelling my feet, all I needed to hear was that from now on…. No milk (I live on milk and cheese!) No wheat (What???) No chocolate (I'm a chocoholic!!!) I had nothing to loose. I've been on strange diets before - when my hormones blew a fuse after my last child, I blew up like a balloon, and was left eating boiled chicken and vegetables due to having “food intolerance”. I got through that and would get through this. Anything had to be better than the way I was feeling. I went home and started sure enough within the week, I started to feel better, the throwing up slowing down, feeling slowly better. I want all women to know that it is really worth doing the nutritional advice. As soon as I strayed off it I felt awful. Moreover, even after having my baby I have found it useful. If I stop it my baby had dreadful colic. Then I follow the dietary guidelines again and the colic went away. It works. Do it 100%, do it!
I’m already quite fit, I go to the gym and eat healthily aren’t I already birthfit? Chances are that you are incredibly birthfit, however, one can never be too prepared for birth! You can only get a better result if you follow the Gentle Birth Method programme. I would also recommend that you think about changing your exercise regime. Some machines that you get in the gym, such as the stepping machine and cross-trainer, can tighten the lower vaginal muscles, which means that the second stage (where you push the baby out of the body) can be more difficult. Therefore, back off on these exercises and instead do yoga, swimming and walking. Also do listen to the audio tape (The Jeyarani Way. Prepare for a natural birth with Self-hypnosis and Visualisation by Dr Gowri Motha.). Being an athletic person you probably know that athletes often use visualisation to achieve their goals and our audio-tape can do this for you so that you can get your own gold medal baby! |
