Do I really have to give up wheat and sugar and take all these herbs? Wheat: In my experience mother’s who do not eat wheat have shorter, smoother labours. In fact I have found that mother’s who have allergies to wheat and so have had to give up all wheat products have amazingly smooth and easy deliveries. Sugar: Giving up sugar helps to protect your uterus and cervix from the damage caused by free radicals. Free radical damage can cause inflammation, tightness and restrictions of muscles and tendons all over the body including in the birthing space, which we really want to be loose and open for birthing. Herbs: The herbs are a time-honoured method of speeding elimination of wastes from your gut and through your bladder. Basically some of us need a bit of help to clear out toxins and wastes from our system and the herbs help improve the suppleness and elasticity of the muscles in the whole body and the birthing area. In my experience it is ESSENTIAL that you follow the nutritional guidelines if you are to have a good a pregnancy and birth experience that you can have. When my mother’s follow the guidelines they often say how wonderful they feel during pregnancy. Moreover, when it comes to the birth process a toxic free, uncongested pelvis, with a baby that is the right size for your body means that birthing is so much easier. It is often said that during your pregnancy you are “eating for two”. But don’t think of it in terms of being able to eat twice as much food think of it in terms of birthfitness for you and your baby. You are “eating for two” in terms of what you eat is affecting you and your baby and will have an effect on your labour. Remember it’s only for 40 weeks!
